Congrats xetere! I had to laugh though when I read "JFK paralyzed". I had that very thing happen to me this morning. I was working a flight from
there to BDL. My captain called me and said, "We're number 30 for take off." I was paralyzed in my jumpseat wondering how my passengers were
going to react to an hour or more sitting in the taxi out line...for a 20 minute flight! Gotta love JFK! LOL

The more you fly, the better you will become. Even my first few weeks I worked turbulence would "bother" me. I would sit down and strap in with just
minor rock and rolling. Now I just hold on and continue my service through moderate bumps. When we hit severe, I usually get dinged by my captain to stop doing
whatever I'm doing, get my stuff put away, and get in my seat. It's not because we're afraid what could happen to the plane. It's because they
don't want to see me get hurt.

Thanks for the congratulations. This really is very exciting.

just returned from SFO and again, I was much calmer. We did hit some turbulence over Kansas apparently a front between warm humid gulf air and cold plains air
hung across our rote. I did the exercises, lifted my feet off the ground, remembered in a Zen way that this too shall pass, that it is not dangerous, that the
pilots are likely not even noticing, or if they are, it is so the passengers can get some sleep, and that it is objectively no worse than a bumpy road or the
subway I take every day to work. Forced myself to count to 200 and see whether or not the chop ended. If it didn't I counted to 200 again. Although it was
consistent for about an hour and a half, the "bad" parts (and I use the term loosely since I doubt it was that bad - we're talking my scale not
normal scale) rarely lasted for the full 200 count. But interestingly after about the first fifteen minutes, I realized that there...

I just want to say thank you to everyone.

Once I made the decision to go, and to talk to the pilot, well it was much easier. Despite the ominous forecasts (really gotta stop listening to the weather) a
quick climb out through the rainclouds of New York and it was pretty smooth sailing the entire way. I actually slept. I actually read a magazine when the pilot
turned on the seat belt sign and barely noticed the chop. (And kudos to the pilot or telling us why we'd hut chop and how long it will last)

Amazing. I think I might be turning a corner here.

hi there

if you are flying united, you can turn on channel 9 "from the cockpit". this station lets you listen in on the pilot conversations with air traffic
control. it helps me feel less nervous to know that the pilots are just carrying on with business as usual.

plus i always like to look at the manhattan skyline as i am taking off from jfk, its beautiful and distracting

Good luck, Xetere! Before my first flight after starting the SOAR course and the strengthening exercise, I was also a nervous wreck. And it was also a business
trip and I was flying by myself. I lost four pounds in two days and was in torment. What got me on the plane was saying to myself, as Captain Tom recommended,
that I would meet the pilots and then decide whether I would take the flight. After meeting the pilots I felt much better. The anxiety was not magically gone,
but it was less and I was able to cope. So, the point is, if you follow Capt. Tom's advice, you will feel better on the flight than you do now, so please
don't be discouraged.

that they are paying for and for which I asked to go. That is it in a nutshell. I am not confident enough in myself to make it even after the exercises and
lurking on these boards. The strengthening exercises help somewhat but they also wear off quickly after I am done with them.

I guess my question is how to make them last more.
