Definitely nervous but practised the strengthening exercises and the 5-4-3-2-1 exercies.

Hi thanks to all for your kind words of encouragement. Well My wife and I went to Albuquerque for her birthday. Total of four flights since there is no
non-stop from NY (We New Yorkers are so egotistical, I thought there'd be a non-stop to everywhere)

I prepared by redoing the strengthening exercieses, 5,4,3,2,1, good music on the Ipod. Deliberately NOT looking at weather like I obsessively did and I did
quite well. Of course, the situation that prompted me to post didn't exist. SOme parts of the flight were bumy in that the seat belt sign was on, but
nothing major and I again imagined myself skimming over choppy water, and counting during the chop, knowing that a plane flying at almost 600mph can get past
most weather fronts in ten minutes or so.

Landing in ABQ was choppy, apparently springtime is windy there. My seatmate lokoed nervous, but I was so focused on the scenery (Geology major in college)
that I really didnt notice.

So that was a...

Hi Capt. Tom --

I think that what Debbie (your "star" client and good friend of us both, and occasional poster here) has said is instructional. And -- is consistent
with what you have said here. Her "hypothesis" is -- FF is NEVER truly cured. SOAR teaches methods and techniques (OK, Weapons, if you will) to
effectively deal with it.

And -- FFs do deal with it, through SOAR. Very successfully.

I think the most important thing here is, for people to NOT beat themselves up for an occasional relapse. It is normal, and does not detract from the basic
SOAR premise.

Cheers.

Steve

There is an interesting thing that if you pronounce yourself "cured", it almost always sends you back to square one. I think it is part of the
perfectionism many of us have. We don't want this problem. We want to be like everyone else. We want to put it behind us, and so, when there is any reason
to say it is all done, that's what we do.

The first I saw of this was years ago when we did "live" courses at airports. We also had introductory meetings for potential clients, and at those
meetings, we asked a "graduate" to come to talk about his or her experiences. What I found was shocking. Those "graduates" who came in and
told the prospective clients they were cured had a setback. Those "graduates" who said they might never really like flying but they were dealing with
it, and sometimes had difficult feelings, but were able to manage continued to improve.

I think pronouncing ones self cured is artificial, and...

Hi xetere,

I wanted to reply as I am in a similar situation -- did fine with my first flights after SOAR, then suddenly had a flight where I was shocked by my feelings
---which I had thought were a thing of the past. So I am coming back to the boards and the website and doing the strengthening exercise again with a new
memory.
Thanks for sharing your story, hope to see an update from you on your next flight :-)

Thanks.

THanks, you know the thought occurred to me "after, of course" to open my laptop, get your number and call. I think the French call it l'esprit
de l'escalier. (meaning what you should have done when it is too late)

You'll be sure to get my call if I need it next time.

Thanks for your help. Other than this one blip, your program worked wonders, really, I was jetting all over the world in 2008.

As I have told people again and again. If you are at the airport and think of bailing out, call. I don't charge for it. Why? Because in just a couple of
minutes getting a person reconnected with reason instead of panic, they can see clearly and recognize their fears are overblown, and get on the plane.

If not, what happened to you becomes a big deal. You feel like a jerk and feel like you are setback, etc., etc., etc.

Just go ahead and fly. Before the flight, "warm up" the Strengthening Exercise with a couple of sessions. When you get to the airport, if you get
edgy, just call. 877 332-7359.

Got to PBI Tuesday night for the return flight and there was a huge thunderstorm over the airport, every TV in the airport bar was tuned to the "emergency
weather frequency" talking about hail toradoes, cloud tops of 40,000 feet. The sky looked purple, black and greenish like I had never seen before, and
well, I saw a funnel cloud (always wanted to see a tornado but not...
