Thanks, Pam.

My flight home was OK. I was more unsettled than usual on both flights this time. Both had some moderate chop at some points, and I hadn't prepared and
exercised the SOAR materials as much ahead of time. That said, most of the flight time was uneventful, and I felt good meeting the pilots each time.

I hate coming in through the clouds for landing. It always feels so tumultuous, the slowing and then speeding up again, pitch up a little and then pitch down.
But obviously that is all me; the pilots do a great job and they are the ones who know how to fly the thing, not me!

And landing always feels SO GOOD!

Pam I have been thinking of you. I will check the other threads in a minute; hoping to hear a report from you!

Good luck with your flight, Pam. You will do great.

I'm sitting at the gate in New Orleans right now and feeling pretty good. I like watching other planes arrive and depart -gives me a reminder how routine
this is!

Bigger flight home, which I still prefer. I know they all work and fly the same, but comfort is comfort!

I know it's silly, but it just seems more rational that the regional jets have a better chance of getting off the ground. I know logically that that is
crazy, but.... I saw my first jumbo jet or at least a really hugh plane parked at a gate next to my regional jet recently and it just made me feel better
knowing that it was so much easier for my little jet to get up into the air than it was for that big lug of a plane. Not to mention easier for my plane to
land and stop! Also, boarding the regional jet is so much faster!!

Good job, Meghan,
I'm sure you'll to fine tomorrow. I love NOLA. The food is great! Hope you had some of the local fare. Interesting about seeing the lightning.
They're predicting thunderstorms (some severe) tomorrow afternoon and evening for my flight to Munich. Is nice to know that you saw the lightning and
were able to deal with it. Hope I can do as well. Have a great trip back.

Hi Folks,

Flight was OK. I didn't feel as comfortable as usual, with a smaller plane and younger (but still probably late 30's or 40's) pilots.

They told me we were going to go over some storms above Missouri, and that I might see lightning, which I did. (It was low, and didn't seem close to us.)
We had about 20 minutes of mild to what for me was moderate turbulence. Combined with the sun having gone down and not feeling super good about the flight, I
was unsettled but did fine. I love watching a glass of water to put it all in perspective, and that definitely helped. Also, of course, the FA's didn't
seem bothered by it at all, which was comforting too.

Other than that the flight was smooth; it is amazing to fly from Chicago to New Orleans in less than two hours!

Flight home is in the morning. N.O. is a beautiful and interesting city if you folks have never been.

Wish me luck on the flight back tomorrow --info...

Thanks you guys. As my day has gotten busier, I have been doing a bit better. Packing now and headed to the airport soon. Working on getting excited to go to
sleep in the French Quarter tonight and being amazed that I can fly from Chicago to New Orleans in 1 hour 45 minuts rather than just focusing on the fear. I
will feel better tonight!

I'll keep you updated. Thanks for the helpful words and positive thoughts!

Meghan -- it makes total sense to me that your "nerves" are rattled given everything going on in your life. I would think you'd be nervous
whether you flew, drove, or rode on a boat to your destination! But you have all the tools you need to handle this trip. You know that. You also know that once
you meet the pilots, that will ease things in your mind as this has worked for all of us! Really, those moments on the plane may be your best opportunity to
relax. No one can call you! Someone else is "driving." Just do your exercises and meet the pilots and kick back and enjoy it as much as you can!

I'll be happy to track your flights as well. Have a great trip and successful conference!!

And using your reference of a "fast forward" button ... I remember from SOAR Fast Track the mental exercise of envisioning in your mind you driving
to the airport, waiting, boarding, flying, landing, de-boarding, getting your luggage, going to...

Positive energy from me! It is my birthday today so we will both have a good day. I am a teacher to so I can sympathize with the stress that comes along with
it. My words of comfort are:
in the Wings of Discovery book I read a bit that says that when pilots are training, they like to fly into turbulence because they enjoy it. If your flight has
some bumpiness, think of how, while this is uncomfortable for you, the pilots are ok with it and might actually be enjoying it! Also, tell a flight attendant
about your fear and to not mind if you constantly look for their face for a smile of comfort.
Good luck with your conference!

I think it's because I'm going on this short trip (to give a paper at an academic conference) amidst so many other stressful things in my life right

teaching an intensive summer course; I'm swamped with grading; and I haven't been able to exercise, sleep enough, eat right lately, so physically I
feel off too. Basically this is like a compounding stress for me today.

I know that SOAR doesn't necessarily do as much for anticipatory anxiety as it does when we're actually on the plane and in flight.

I do plan to meet the pilots. I did do the strengthening exercise last week (although I've always had trouble focusing or having a...
