I have a flight on Continental Tuesday, 4/8 from PHL to IAH. I thought I was doing ok--but now with all the new coverage and the posts from lumberjack--I am
starting to freak out. I don't really want to cancel my flight--but the stuff I am hearing is not helping.
Any advice with all the new issues that are being 'exposed' every day the last few weeks? |

How can I just 'blindly' get on an aircraft knowing that all these problems are going on in the backround? It was better before I read all these
articles---which of course, just happen to be coming up right before my flight.

I feel your pain and I think all these postings are not very helpful, I have already changed a flight on Saturday from JetBlue to American and now I feel like
walking to California!

First, Continental is a great airline, and I have not seen any news on a lapse of maintenance with them, etc.... Second, know that the media is blowing a
lot of this way out of control. Southwest,... happened over a year ago, they (airline) came to the FAA and said "Hey, we noticed an oversight and fixed
it." What happens, "Oh geez guys thanks for being honest and safe, here's your fine..."
American and Delta, grounded planes to do an audit, no problem or accident occured, it was a simple check and the planes were back in the air after a two hour inspection. Brake problem, found, being checked, case solved. Orlando wack job who tried to board a plane with a bomb. Didn't even make it past the security line which means, system security worked. I live in Orlando and the story is all over the news. As soon as the bag went into the machine red flags went off, as security was already surrounding the guy due to his weird behavior. Also, which may not help, he has told the press here that he was taking the devices to a hotel where two man accused of killing the his mother lived, and blowing them up. The littlest story about the airlines now make you seem that everything is unsafe. Let me ask you this, there has been major recalls over the last few years on about every single car in the auto industry, from Ford cars just exploding at stop lights to Chevy breaks that failed. Does that stop you from driving your car or getting into another car? Just as much danger right? Since we have no control however over flying the plane our minds take our anxiety and increase it 10 fold. My suggestion, get on that plane, have a great flight, and laugh about how you were scared when you get back from your trip. Have a good flight |

PDH2377. COuld not agree with you more. There is a story of Cincinnati flight landing on blown 4 tires. At first, CNN told it as "near disaster"
emergency landing. The next day it was changed to "normal landing" but rocky! News do make it seem so terrible and it is enough to stir up fearful
fliers such as myself.
Love your car analogy! So true! yet, no one thinks of it. Flying this saturday on USAir! Hope all goes well! |

I think the FF flyers have real control issues.
If we can't control the plane while its flying... we must control the type of plane, the seating, the airlines etc etc. Maybe we just need to trust the pilots. They don't want to die. They are not suicidal. My learning to trust them was my breakthrough. |

Note from Capt. Tom I know everyone worries about weather, but pilots really do not worry about it. We simply - instead of worrying about it - completely prepare for it. Before going to the plane, we review the weather at the destination. If it is not 100% sure to be within legal limits when we arrive at the destination, we must specify an alternate airport in our planning documents, and load on plenty of fuel for going to the destination airport, and then if need be, diverting to the alternate airport. The legal limits are conservative. Even when weather is slightly outside the legal limits, any airline pilot could still land safely. You can rely on the captain never to land when the weather is not legal, and legality limits are reached prior to safety limits. If you are still anxious, call me and we can talk it over. I'm at 877 332-7359 from 10 AM until 7 PM Eastern time. Using Weather Information If you enter your ZIP Code or City at the top of the weather presentation, it will give you weather for your area. Or, you can enter your destination ZIP Code or City.
Click on the "LOCAL RADAR" button to see whether or not there are thunder- Turbulence, though it may cause anxiety, does not mean anything is wrong. Turbulence does not mean danger. The plane can handle far more turbulence than Mother Nature can dish out. Though flying in turbulence is safe, it doesn't feel safe. And here is where the SOAR programs come in. We can help you feel as safe when you fly as you actually are. You can see these programs at www.fearofflying.com/store. |
