Sure, will track you. So far, there have been no pilot reports of turbulence from ewr to san fran at 36k feet. In fact, your flight should be smooth. I just
flew back from san diego and had a great flight both ways. Of course some bumps, but really nothing at all.

Don't freak. Believe it or not, I got in the zone and just went with the bumps and all was good. especially seeing everyone in the airplane continue
reading, sleeping, my son playing, wife reading . . . so far it looks clear from Newark to Indiana, then it looks like there will be light turbulence for a bit
and then smooth flying into San Fran. Of course, the pilot will slow up to make the ride smoother. I will track you and when you get to the hotel, have a
relaxing drink.

My flights were good. Nothing to complain about at all, except the usual spike in nerves while at the airport. That spike used to last about a month, though,
instead of an hour, so I think I'm still making progress.
I flew on a 767 for the first time on the way home. (I'd been flying only on MD-80s the past couple years.) Those planes are kinda cool. The TV screens were more comforting than I'd imagined. I loved the times when they'd show our route and stats and location --like tracking myself inside the plane! I was also able to get immersed in a movie, too, which helped. I like bigger, longer flights, I think. I may have to travel for job stuff this fall on relatively short notice, and there is a chance I'll hve to do a regional jet here and there. That might freak me out. We'll see. The honeymoon was great! We were actually hoping for the cooler weather that was and is happening out here, but couldn't complain about the clear skies and 80 degree weather. We planned a bit of an overly-active honeymoon, touring around the Bay Area. We both definitely understand why many people go and loaf on a beach for their honeymoons. But we love the Bay Area and had a great time. Stayed in Sonoma and did the wine country thing a few days, went into the city one day, etc. How did you do on your flights? |

hi meghan!
sounds like you had an amazing honeymoon in the bay....and sonoma wine tasting is so much fun! i did okay on the flight home but was a wreck on the flight there. but only before takeoff, once we were airborne, i was okay. our flight was delayed on the runway for over an hour so i think the anticipation was really getting to me. i have a trip to paris in a couple of weeks so of course, i am a bit nervous.....but more nervous that i will be nervous. crazy right??! |

I totally get the nerves about the nerves thing.
You fly a lot these days. Have you always, or is this a new thing for you? It also seems you do fine at times and then get really nervous others. I'm the same way. How long have you been using SOAR? The trip to Paris sounds exciting! Will you get some time to play, or will it be all work? Meghan |

i do fly a lot....i always have flown pretty often, since my family is in california, i go there often. and then work has sporadic travel. i actually used to
be pretty okay until about a year ago....and i have been a wreck ever since!
not sure what switch flipped...could be that i am starting my own business, or getting older. kind of weird. i have been using soar only for the last few months....and am not the most diligent about using the program. but i will definitely practice pre paris... unfortunately just working but at least it will be in paris, right? |

Note from Capt. Tom I know everyone worries about weather, but pilots really do not worry about it. We simply - instead of worrying about it - completely prepare for it. Before going to the plane, we review the weather at the destination. If it is not 100% sure to be within legal limits when we arrive at the destination, we must specify an alternate airport in our planning documents, and load on plenty of fuel for going to the destination airport, and then if need be, diverting to the alternate airport. The legal limits are conservative. Even when weather is slightly outside the legal limits, any airline pilot could still land safely. You can rely on the captain never to land when the weather is not legal, and legality limits are reached prior to safety limits. If you are still anxious, call me and we can talk it over. I'm at 877 332-7359 from 10 AM until 7 PM Eastern time. For effective help, even if you are flying in a day or two, sign up now at www.fearofflying.com/fasttrack and call me when you finish Clip 9 so I can make sure you are all set. |

Using Weather Information If you enter your ZIP Code or City at the top of the weather presentation, it will give you weather for your area. Or, you can enter your destination ZIP Code or City.
Click on the "LOCAL RADAR" button to see whether or not there are thunder- Turbulence, though it may cause anxiety, does not mean anything is wrong. Turbulence does not mean danger. The plane can handle far more turbulence than Mother Nature can dish out. Though flying in turbulence is safe, it doesn't feel safe. And here is where the SOAR programs come in. We can help you feel as safe when you fly as you actually are. You can see these programs at www.fearofflying.com/store. |
