of all the little fears I have about this and that and now I am loking forward to a flight next month..Wow! Go there, I have tried everything before, but

Thought Field Therapy and other methods | ||

The therapy being taught here was first developed in the U.S. by a Dr. Roger J. Callahan. He and I were on a television program together way back in 1982. He
originally called it the "Five Minute Phobia Cure" but later renamed it "Thought Field Therapy".
I learned the method from him. It did indeed work for some phobias, but I was unable to get it to work for fear of flying. I believe the problem is that there are so many aspects to flying (boarding, taxi, takeoff, climb, cruise, turbulence, etc.), that each aspect of it needs to be treated separately (which is what we do in the SOAR Program by linking each and every distinctive moment of the flight -- not to tapping -- but to something more effective). After Dr. Callahan came up with his method, it was ripped off by others who gave it a different names such as Energy Therapy. There is something similar to Callahan's work -- but far more developed than his TFT -- by Francine Shapiro called EMDR. EMDR is helpful when treating trauma, provided the trauma is not from early childhood. Shapiro seems to have come up with EMDR independently. EMDR is not a five minute therapy, but is used by a licensed therapist over a number of sessions. EMDR, however, is not helpful for fear of flying. There is also the "Six Minute Phobia Cure" from NLP. I spent over a year attending an institute to learn NLP, but found it -- again -- did not help with fear of flying. I should say, however, that for mild fear of flying ANYTHING will work. The problem is, when a person is afraid of having a panic attack on a plane, none of these other methods have any effectiveness at all. If you have a mild problem with flying, almost anything will help. What is available free at www.fearofflying.com is far more than you can find free elsewhere, and is also more than you will get if you pay for help elsewhere. We offer so many things free because our focus on with people who have moderate to severe problems with flying who cannot be helped by another other means. Here is the free help we offer.

Audrey-
First of all, I think you're completely missing what Capt Tom is saying. As it turns out, plenty of my friends and family members have some level of fear of flying. Maybe some jitters during certain parts of the flight, maybe anxiety pre-flight, etc. But none of them have such an extreme fear that they avoid flying. Some people here have such an intense fear of flying that they'll actually book a family vacation, get to the airport, check-in, and freeze at the jetway right before getting on the plane. They'll go years, even decades, without seeing family members of friends because they won't even consider booking a ticket. Capt Tom didn't rubbish the method. In fact, he praised it. He just said that it doesn't have the same results for people with more intense fears. Second, why would you feel the need to come to a SOAR course forum to market a different product? |

Because this is spam, and Audrey H is maybe a real FOF-er maybe not, who knows? but whatever, this sounds exactly like pitches for Vi*gra or HerbalLife or some other stuff that get posted on boards. THe language is the same, the bold lettering, the attacking of the reasoned response the smear innuendo about rejecting just because of money. Frankly I think this should be deleted. if she wants to advertise, let her pay, but this isn't my board. |

yeah, i have to admit it DOES sound kinda pitchy...the only thing i would counter that with, is any time someone spams these boards they usually don't
reply to anyone's replies...

We rarely do any censorship of the board. Posts are removed if completely unacceptable or offensive, but if someone wants to recommend something else, I just
explain my point of view. There really is no other program anywhere or any kind that comes close to what we do, and we have the research to prove it.

Note from Capt. Tom I know everyone worries about weather, but pilots really do not worry about it. We simply - instead of worrying about it - completely prepare for it. Before going to the plane, we review the weather at the destination. If it is not 100% sure to be within legal limits when we arrive at the destination, we must specify an alternate airport in our planning documents, and load on plenty of fuel for going to the destination airport, and then if need be, diverting to the alternate airport. The legal limits are conservative. Even when weather is slightly outside the legal limits, any airline pilot could still land safely. You can rely on the captain never to land when the weather is not legal, and legality limits are reached prior to safety limits. If you are still anxious, call me and we can talk it over. I'm at 877 332-7359 from 10 AM until 7 PM Eastern time. For effective help, even if you are flying in a day or two, sign up now at www.fearofflying.com/fasttrack and call me when you finish Clip 9 so I can make sure you are all set. |

Using Weather Information If you enter your ZIP Code or City at the top of the weather presentation, it will give you weather for your area. Or, you can enter your destination ZIP Code or City.
Click on the "LOCAL RADAR" button to see whether or not there are thunder- Turbulence, though it may cause anxiety, does not mean anything is wrong. Turbulence does not mean danger. The plane can handle far more turbulence than Mother Nature can dish out. Though flying in turbulence is safe, it doesn't feel safe. And here is where the SOAR programs come in. We can help you feel as safe when you fly as you actually are. You can see these programs at www.fearofflying.com/store. |
