Ok I'll do it.
I departed at 9:52am, we were scheduled to depart at 9:59 so a little bit early! I'm flying over Indiana now. The ride has been smooth. A couple of TEENY bumps here and there, no biggie. I'm flying at an altitude of 34,000 feet and I'm over Indiana right now. I'm enjoying Mall Cop and chatting with my mom online. My anxiety level? 2 I'm so amazed. -Meli |

I didn't get a chance to come on the boards yesterday, but checked in on you periodically. FlightAware gave me some issues later in the flight. But you
got in almost an hour early, so must have been an even greater experience!

So overall I had a great trip. My flight to CA was so smooth! I actually didn't feel like I was on an airplane at all to tell you the truth. I did take
motion sickness (dramamine) medication at the beginning. However, near middle-end of the flight I had this weird headache and eye-ache so I attribute it to
that. Also, at night my sister took me to a great concert and I kept falling asleep because of the medication! So maybe it wasn't a great idea. But I was
able to entertain myself with movies, food and wireless. I really like Virgin America for this reason. It was an expensive trip but I figured the more movies I
watched ($8 a movie) and the more I chatted with friends ($12.95 to connect to wireless) the more relaxed I would be, and I was. OH! I forgot to mention that I
did meet the pilots. I felt silly and it's fine because I was in tears as I was talking to the ticket agent but she was very sweet and brought me to the
pilots who were also all smiles, so that definitely alleviated things.
The flight back was incredible in that it was only 4 hours and 18 minutes. WOW! But, right away, I could sense something was not right with me. Thinking back, I think the reason might be that I did not think about practicing my exercises while I was in CA. I mean, how could I! Sunny beaches, delicious food! So my anxiety level was higher than usual and, this time, I did feel like I was flying. The flight was a little bit bumpier than the first one, but now looking back, it really wasn't THAT bumpy, I was just on higher alert. I kept envisioning the plane in JELLO which did help a bit. I'm so happy I did the trip! My sister was seriously planning very little thinking that I would back out. But now I have built up strength from this flight, and am looking forward to more trips. I am not saying that I will never be a little anxious, but it's great to not have to say "I haven't flown in 6 years" anymore! |

Note from Capt. Tom I know everyone worries about weather, but pilots really do not worry about it. We simply - instead of worrying about it - completely prepare for it. Before going to the plane, we review the weather at the destination. If it is not 100% sure to be within legal limits when we arrive at the destination, we must specify an alternate airport in our planning documents, and load on plenty of fuel for going to the destination airport, and then if need be, diverting to the alternate airport. The legal limits are conservative. Even when weather is slightly outside the legal limits, any airline pilot could still land safely. You can rely on the captain never to land when the weather is not legal, and legality limits are reached prior to safety limits. If you are still anxious, call me and we can talk it over. I'm at 877 332-7359 from 10 AM until 7 PM Eastern time. For effective help, even if you are flying in a day or two, sign up now at www.fearofflying.com/fasttrack and call me when you finish Clip 9 so I can make sure you are all set. |

Using Weather Information If you enter your ZIP Code or City at the top of the weather presentation, it will give you weather for your area. Or, you can enter your destination ZIP Code or City.
Click on the "LOCAL RADAR" button to see whether or not there are thunder- Turbulence, though it may cause anxiety, does not mean anything is wrong. Turbulence does not mean danger. The plane can handle far more turbulence than Mother Nature can dish out. Though flying in turbulence is safe, it doesn't feel safe. And here is where the SOAR programs come in. We can help you feel as safe when you fly as you actually are. You can see these programs at www.fearofflying.com/store. |
