The first leg of my trip was Raleigh to LaGuardia on American Eagle. My meeting was in NJ but I flew to LGA to save on ticket costs. Newark has gotten quite expensive lately. I flew out of RDU's new terminal which is beautiful. I usually visit the Admiral's Club courtesy of my Amex Platinum Card but did not have time. The flight was scheduled to depart at 730a. The weather was perfect and the airport was relatively empty for a Monday morning. We boarded the flight on time. It was a Canadair Jet which I like because the seats are 2 by 2 - feels a little more roomy that the Embraer 1 by 2 setup.
We pushed back from the gate on time, started moving towards the runway, and then stopped. After several minutes we pulled back up to the gate. The pilot announced he wanted to have maintenance look at something and then determine if we would need to deplane. The FA re-opened the door and let the mainteance crew onboard. As they were testing I heard what sounded like sputtering/rattling noises and then ringing. This went on a few times. After about 20 minutes, they announced all was fine and we would be departing. Awhile back I might have been nervous at this point . But but now I was reassured that the pilot was doing his job, ensuring all systems were in working order and all was well.
We took off and quickly climbed through the clouds. I always enjoy looking out the window when we are just above the cloud cover and the sun is out. The flight was uneventful and despite the short delay we arrived on schedule at LGA. The weather in New York on Monday was perfect. The only delay I dealt with was actually the shuttle service into New York City which was an hour late. I'll give you a recap of my return trip from Manchester NH tomorrow.
